Let’s Take Away the Unfair Advantage of Big Government Politicians in Michigan.

Imagine a football game where the referees are on the payroll of one of the teams. That team controls hiring and firing, working conditions, and pay of the referees. Would this be fair? Or would it be a conflict-of-interest - and give one side an unfair advantage?

Imagine a court where Judges are on the payroll of the Prosecutors. The Prosecutors determine who gets hired and fired, working conditions, and pay of the Judges. Would this be fair? Or would it be a conflict-of-interest - and give one side an unfair advantage?

Now imagine an election process where those who directly profit from government contracts are allowed to give money to those who control government spending.Would this be fair? Or would it be a conflict-of-interest - and give one side an unfair advantage?

Most Americans want impartiality and fairness. In sports, courts, and elections. We oppose rigged games, bribed officials, and unfair advantages. We root out conflicts-of-interest. Oppose corruption. We oppose even the appearance of marked cards, stacked decks, rigged contests, influenced officials, conflict-of-interest, or corruption.

This is important in all areas of life. It is crucial in our political process and government.

Those who directly profit from government contracts have a huge financial conflict-of-interest when they donate money to political candidates. Those who receive money from government can take part of that money - and donate it to electing politicians who decide how much money to spend and who to give it to.

Referees shouldn't be on the payroll of one of the teams.

Judges shouldn't be beholden to the prosecutors.

Elected politicians shouldn't serve at the pleasure of those who profit and prosper from government spending.

I propose a simple and fair reform by State Ballot Initiative:

Anti-Conflict-of-Interest Law that would forbid campaign donations by government contractors, their sub-contractors, their employees, their families, and their investors.

Further, this Anti-Conflict-of-Interest Law would outlaw campaign contributions from government employees and their families. Government employees and their families directly benefit financially from government spending - and increasing government spending.

Government employees are government contractors.

Government contractors are government employees.

Both groups profit and benefit from government spending.

Both have a huge, immediate, direct, vested interest in sustaining or increasing government spending.

Why a Ballot Initiative, rather than lobbying your legislature?

Do you really trust the elected politicians in your state to write and pass this kind of legislation?

When YOU write a Ballot Initiative, you can make the language and the law 100% weasel-proof. When YOU write it, you can make sure that it's a no-loophole, iron clad Anti-Conflict-of-Interest Law.

How will you and other voters and taxpayers in your state benefit from this Anti-Conflict-of-Interest Ballot Initiative?

It will stop Conflict-of-Interest giving and receiving of political contributions. It will reduce corruption.

It will give the voters and taxpayers in your state an open and honest contest. Unbribed referees, fair rules, and a level playing field.

It may give rise to a new crop of political candidates who ask: "What's best for taxpayers?"

It will make political candidates accountable to tax-PAYERS, NOT Tax-CONSUMERS.

It will make political candidates answerable to those of us who are better off when government spending and taxes are low, NOT those better off when government spending and taxes are high.

Most government reforms have as much effect as re-shuffling a deck of marked cards in a rigged poker game.

But sometimes a small reform can make a huge difference. This is one such reform.

We live in one of the 24 states that allow ballot initiatives. This is something we can begin.

This one simple government reform by Ballot Initiative can end the unfair advantage of Big Government Politicians. If we get this Anti-Conflict-of-Interest Initiative written, on the ballot, and passed by the voters - small government may be closer than you think.
