Port Huron should make lemonade out of the lemons we know as trash trucks from Toronto.

The March 2007 Popular Science Magazine article titled "The Prophet of Garbage" shows the lack of leadership we have from our current Politicians. As the article shows technology has now been developed which allows ALL garbage except for Nuclear waste to be converted into useful fuels such as ethanol, natural gas and hydrogen while consuming less electricity than it produces. The process uses a little electricity from the grid to get started then it is completely self sustaining.  That's right we can turn all those trash trucks into clean energy to power the area and sell extra back to the grid all while charging cities to deliver the fuel to us.

Instead of county residents paying $35/ton to get rid of it's trash the area could be making $15/ton.  An area of 1,000,000 people generates about 2,000 tons daily which the $250,000,000 model  Plasma Converter can handle. This would change a $3,300,000 annual trash cost into a annual profit. Since St Clair County is only 150,000 people we would charge another $21,700,000 for taking additional trash and sell the excess energy for $11,000,000 for a total of $32,700,000 annual revenue instead of a $3,300,000 annual cost.
Instead of stopping the trash we should have be seeking long term contracts with guaranteed volumes at guaranteed prices. Trash will be sold in the future not paid to be disposed of. This technology has been in the works since the early 1990's and is now available. The complete article is at
